S&TW Dept organizes programme on Laws Protecting Women and Children’s Rights at Kargil.
Kargil, 28th Sept: The Department of Social Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh successfully conducted an engaging and informative programme aimed at raising awareness about the legal rights of women and children. The event was held at Munshi Habibullah Mission School, Kargil on 27th September and at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Kargil on 28th September 2024.
The program was attended by around 160 students and faculty members during which the resource person Tashi Lamo, Research and Training Specialist of State Hub for Empowerment of Women gave a detailed presentation on Laws Protecting Women and Children’s Rights.
The program highlighted critical issues such as domestic violence, child protection laws, sexual harassment, and human trafficking, among others. Special emphasis was placed on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, Juvenile Justice Act , 2015.
The programme also focused on educating the students and staff about the legal mechanisms and procedures to pursue when such rights are violated.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions and raised insightful questions.
