University of Ladakh organizes one-day workshop for farmers in Kargil
Kargil, Feb 14, 2024: One-day workshop for farmers on the theme of Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides and Application of New Generation Formulations for Crop Protection in Vegetable Crops, was held today at Auditorium Hall, Kargil in presence of Executive Councillor, Tourism and Revenue, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz.
The workshop was organised by University of Ladakh in association with the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals, GoI.
Addressing the event the EC applauded the organizers for conducting the workshop and suggested the Agriculture Department Kargil, University of Ladakh and IPFT for designing a policy on agriculture so that the sector can bloom significantly.
EC Feroz asserted that LAHDC, Kargil is committed to work for the welfare of farmers adding that the efforts of farmers should be recognized and honored formally.
Rector, Kargil Campus, UoL, Kaneez Fatima said that the objective to organize the workshop for University of Ladakh is to engage progressive farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and foster a culture of responsible pesticide usage.
Fatima highlighted the importance agricultural literacy and its socio-economic impact. Adding to it she said that women in society have a huge role to contribute in agriculture sector.
The workshop featured expert led sessions on the latest advancements in pesticide formulations tailored for vegetable crops.
Dr. L.K Thakur (Scientist, IPFT) gave the welcome address. Dr. Smriti Kala delivered a PowerPoint presentation on “Integrated Pest Management Sustainable Solution for Productive Agriculture”.
Kacho Mohammad Ali Khan, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil gave a lecture on the increasing demand for sustainable agriculture practices among the farmers. Dr. Sudeep Mishra (IPFT, scientist) gave a detailed presentation on “Analysis and Quality of Organic Pesticide formulation and Residues”.
Girirag Char (IPFT, Scientist) as resource person also spoke on “Organic and Sustainable Agriculture”.
Harmendra Gupta from IPFT presented vote of thanks. Further, farmer kits were distributed among the participating farmers.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for participants to implement the knowledge gained, contributing to safer and more sustainable agricultural practices in their communities.
Kaneez Fatima, Rector, Kargil Campus, UoL, Nawang Tundup, Registrar, UoL, Kacho Mohammad Ali Khan, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor, UoL, Tashi Tundup, Consultant, UoL, Resource persons from IPFT, faculty members of UoL and farmers across Kargil were present during the workshop.
