    World AIDS Day Observed at University of Ladakh, Leh Campus.

    Leh, December 2,2024: The Red Ribbon Club of University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, observed World AIDS Day at its campus on December 2, 2024, with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS .
    A poster-making competition was the key highlight of the program, attracting enthusiastic participation from students across various teaching departments. The competition was judged by Dr. Ashu Rajput, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, and Mr. Lobzang Kunkhyab, Physical Instructor. During the competition, the 1st Position was secured by Ms. Shiv Kanwar (M.Sc. Zoology, 1st Semester). Likewise, 2nd and 3rd Position were secured by Mr. Stanzin Kunsel (B.P.Ed., 3rd Semester) and Mr. Salman Khan (M.Sc. Forensic Sciences, 1st Semester) respectively.
    Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof. S.K. Mehta, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He distributed prizes to the winners and in his address, highlighted the importance of organizing such events to foster awareness and sensitivity among students. He urged students to maintain their active participation in such initiatives, emphasizing the role of education in combating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
    The program commenced with an overview of World AIDS Day delivered by Dr. Jigmat Dachen, Dean Students Welfare and In-charge Administration, Leh Campus. He emphasized the importance of promoting education and understanding about HIV/AIDS to create an informed and empathetic society. The observance concluded with a Candlelight Vigil, symbolizing solidarity in the global fight against HIV/AIDS and commemorating those who have succumbed to the disease.
    The event was sponsored by the J&K AIDS Control Society, Department of Health and Medical Education, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, further demonstrating the collaborative efforts to promote awareness and advocacy for HIV/AIDS prevention.
