Youth Services & Sports Department, UT Ladakh facilitates Indian Ultra Runner Sufiya Sufi.
Leh, August 17: On behalf of the Secretary of Sports, UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar, Joint Director of Sports Moses Kunzang facilitated Indian Ultra runner Sufiya Sufi who completed the expedition from Manali to Leh in 113 hours and 55 minutes by making the world record, at Civil secretariat.
Joint Director Moses Kunzang congratulated Sufiya Sufi and appreciated the efforts while discussing challenges and experiences, Sufiya shared that running on tough terrain and high altitude can be better for any kind of Marathon/expedition.
The ultra-runner mesmerized the program by sharing her experience and her inspiring story spelled a spectrum of encouragement to all present there. She highlighted running on trails can be better for overall fitness than the pavement. The resistance of running uphill improves leg strength and uneven ground improves ankle strength, flexibility, and balance, she stated. She also shared her daily routines and diet to stay fit for any kind of expedition.
Sufiya emphasized that Marathon offers girls a diverse set of important life skills such as athletics, women empowerment and life skills, and health and nutrition education. Sufiya urged the Ladakh Administration to provide more space for the involvement of women in marathons and expeditions for women’s empowerment.
The Secretary to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor/Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar also congratulated Sufiya Sufi for her outstanding achievement.
Dr Stanzin Thakchos (OSD to the Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh); Tsewang Motup (organizer of the Ladakh Marathon); officials of the concerned department; team members of Sufiya; and athletes from Ladakh Jigmet Dolma and Tsering Stobgias were present in the program.
