    16th CEC Ice Hockey Cup concludes in Kargil, Dr Akhoon congratulates finalist teams.
    Kargil, January 04, 2025: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today graced the concluding ceremony of the 16th CEC Ice Hockey Cup 2024-25 at Biamathang Ice Hockey Rink, Kargil and congratulated the finalist teams.
    Executive Councillor, Tourism, Kacho Mohd Feroz; Joint Director, Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Zabdavi; Councillors: Adv. Khadim Hussain (Baroo-Minjee), Manzoor ul Hussain (Yourbaltak), Abdul Hadi (Panikhar), Abdul Samad (Ranbirpora) Altaf Hussain (Chuliskambo); DYSSO Kargil, Abid Hussain, along with other district officers and thousands of sports enthusiasts were present.
    In his address, Dr. Akhoon, who was the chief guest at the event, praised the District Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Department for successfully organizing the tournament. He congratulated both finalist teams for their exceptional performances and emphasized the potential of ice hockey to represent Kargil at national and international levels.
    “Hill Council is committed to promoting winter sports, particularly ice hockey. We are taking all possible measures to enhance the infrastructure and opportunities for athletes,” he said.
    Dr. Akhoon expressed optimism that winter sports would receive a significant boost after completing the Zojila Tunnel. The CEC commended the efforts of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and the UT Administration in enhancing sports infrastructure across the region.
    The final match was played between Drass Warriors and Friends Pashkum Red. After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, an additional five minutes of play also ended in a stalemate. The match was then decided through penalties, where Friends Pashkum Red triumphed with a score of 4-2, clinching the title.
    This year’s tournament witnessed the participation of 32 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. The event concluded with the distributing of medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
