Leh, September 22, 2026: The 7-Day Advanced Refresher Course for Tour and Travel Guides and Operators was inaugurated today at the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), Leh. The course is being organised by SIHM Ladakh in collaboration with DCI Multi Skills Private Limited.
The inauguration programme was attended by Principal, SIHM Leh, Shri Sachin Bali, JKAS; Vice-President, Taxi Union, Shri Rinchen; Tour and Travel Guide, Shri Ajaz Ahmad; and Shri Navid Wani from DCI Multi Skills Private Limited.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by the presentation of khataks to the dignitaries.
Welcoming the participants, Principal SIHM Leh, Shri Sachin Bali, highlighted the importance of skill development and professional training for strengthening the tourism sector in Ladakh. He encouraged the participants to make the most of the seven-day programme and enhance their professional capabilities. He also thanked the DCI team for coordinating the training programme and informed that certificates would be awarded to participants upon successful completion of the course.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Navid Wani from DCI Multi Skills Private Limited emphasised the importance of sustainable tourism and the role of skilled tourism professionals in promoting Ladakh as a destination. He also highlighted the potential of social media in promoting homestays and tourism opportunities in remote areas and encouraged participants to actively engage in the training.
Vice-President of the Taxi Union, Shri Rinchen, highlighted the importance of the tourism sector to the livelihoods of people in Ladakh. He stressed the need for greater coordination among tourism stakeholders and emphasised the importance of preserving Ladakh’s culture and identity while contributing to the sustainable development of the sector.
The seven-day refresher course aims to enhance the professional knowledge and skills of tour and travel guides and operators, with a focus on destination knowledge, interpretation and communication skills, customer service, safety and risk management, and professional networking.
The programme will provide participants with comprehensive knowledge of regional sites and cultures, narrative techniques, language proficiency, customer service and problem-solving skills, along with outdoor safety and first-aid protocols. Participants will also have opportunities to interact with industry professionals and fellow stakeholders.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certification .
The initiative is aimed at strengthening the professional capabilities of tourism stakeholders and enhancing the quality of tourism services and experiences in Ladakh.
