For the people of Zanskar, culture is not merely an aspect of their lives; it is their very essence. This vibrant culture breathes life each year during the Ladakh Zanskar Festival, a two-day extravaganza dedicated to honoring the region’s rich traditions.
The 2023 festival witnessed a diverse crowd converging from all corners of the region to pay homage to their heritage. The event was graced by distinguished personalities, with Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, Commissioner Secretary of the Department of Tourism and Culture, UT Ladakh, presiding as the chief guest.
The festival served as a stage for traditional ethnic cultural troupes from various Zanskar regions to showcase their unique costumes, tailored to withstand the region’s biting winter. Not confined to the region alone, the festival also featured troupes from Purgi tribes from Kargil, Sheena from Drass, Dard-Aryan from Aryan Valley, Changpa Tribe from Changthang and even Himachal Pradesh’s Lahul, Spiti & Kinnaur Cultural Troupes also participated in this Two Days Mega Festival. Their performances, a tapestry of diversity and tradition, left the audience spellbound, earning well-deserved applause.
