LG Mathur meets Jt Secy Fisheries GoI, Dir DCFR to discuss development of fisheries sector in Ladakh
Leh, Aug 24: To strengthen and formulate sustainable development of the fisheries sector in UT Ladakh, the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur held a meeting with Joint Secretary, Inland Fisheries, GoI, Sagar Mehra and Director, Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR), Dr RK Pandey.
Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar; Director, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Dr Mohammad Raza and Assistant Director Fisheries Leh were also present during the meeting.
The officials discussed the development of the fisheries sector in UT Ladakh keeping the immense scope of cold freshwater aquaculture and the success of trout species in the region in mind.
LG Mathur stressed on the need for formulating a comprehensive plan for the development of aquaculture in Ladakh by implementing the programme on a convergence mode with all the stakeholders, including farmers and entrepreneurs.
A team of scientists of DCFR, in collaboration with Fisheries Department, Leh/Kargil, are scheduled to conduct a survey and research of conducive parameters to determine the feasibility of sustainable fisheries development in UT Ladakh.
