Leh commemorates birth and death anniversary of late Tashi Rabgias District Library Leh to be named after Late Tashi Rabgias
Leh, Oct 17: Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Language and Ladakh Cultural Forum Leh in collaboration with Tashi Rabgias Memorial Foundation is organising a week-long program commemorating the 95th Birth & 1st Death Anniversary of an eminent Ladakhi scholar and a historian, late Shri Tashi Rabgias in Leh from 17th to 28th October in Leh.
The inaugural function was organised at the native resident of late Tashi Rabgias in Sakti village today on the occasion of the 95th birth anniversary of late Tashi Rabgias. The Chairman LAHDC Leh was the chief guest and MP Ladakh along with Executive Councillors, Former CEC and Councillors were the guests of honour. Officials from LAACL and various dignitaries including veteran scholars and the family members of late Tashi Rabgias attended the function at Tukchu House in Sakti village today. All the guests paid tribute to late Shri Tashi Rabgias with the lighting of the butter lamp by the chief guest today.
Addressing the gathering, various scholars highlighted the life and achievements of late Shri Tashi Rabgias and stressed the need for preserving his legacy in modern-day Ladakh. They also spoke about their experiences working with the eminent scholar and the contributions of late Tashi Rabgias to the entire Ladakhi society in the field of art, culture and literature.
In a major step taken by the Hill Council Leh, the Chairman/CEC, Advocate Tashi Gyalson informed the gathering that the Executive Council of the 6th LAHDC Leh unanimously passed major resolutions yesterday in a meeting under his chairmanship. He stated that the District Library Leh will be named after late Shri Tashi Rabgias as a tribute to the renowned late scholar. He added that the other two resolutions passed are, Inclusion of the Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution and making the Bhoti language one of the official languages of the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Speaking during the occasion, MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal expressed his gratitude to the Hill Council and LAAC for conducting the function in memory of late Shri Tashi Rabgias. He stated that Ladakhis need to remember the contributions of such eminent scholars and termed late Tashi Rabgias as a father of Ladakh’s History, Art & Culture. He added that the youth of Ladakh need to revisit late Tashi Rabgias’s legacy in the field of Art, Culture and Literature and enhance the literature culture with the help of prominent scholars in the present time.
The function was followed by various cultural programmes and address by Councillor Sakti, officials of LAAC, prominent scholars and family members remembering the legacy of late Tashi Rabgias.
