EC Aga Syed Mehdi Fazili visits flood-affected areas of Barsoo Block Directs for immediate restoration of basic facilities

KARGIL, JULY 27, 2022: Executive Councilor Horticulture, LAHDC, Kargil Aga Syed Mehdi Fazili today toured to different areas of Barsoo Block where floods caused by cloudburst has damaged public property, agriculture land, irrigation canals and disconnected people.
During the tour, the EC was accompanied by BDC Chairperson Hajira Bani, Councillor Sheikh Mohd Ansari, concerned Sarpanch and Panches and local residents.
He visited Lababas Barsoo where flash floods have damaged agriculture land, irrigation canals and footpaths. The flood has also damaged the standing crops while the debris has also accumulated in crop fields. The EC directed the concerned department to immediately restore the irrigation canals.
The EC also visited Singroom Mohalla where agriculture land, irrigation canals and popular trees have been damaged due to flash floods caused by cloudburst. The locals demanded restoration of irrigation canal so that they can irrigate crop fields. The flash floods have also damaged agriculture land at power house. The locals also demanded construction of protection walls to save the agriculture land. The EC directed the concerned officers to conduct a survey of the area and restore the damaged canals on priority.
The EC also visited draught hit Mullah Tharboo where the agricultural land has been affected by water scarcity.
EC Mehdi Fazili also visited Ticket village where the flood has damaged agricultural land and damaged irrigation canals, partly damaged a residential house. The affected family met the EC and demanded compensation from LAHDC Kargil.
The EC also visited Sambit where irrigation canals and agriculture land were damaged by the flood. The residents of Sambit demanded protection walls for the nearby river.
At Sambit drinking water facility and a reservoir has also been damaged. The EC directed for immediate restoration of water supply on priority.
It was informed that the road from Broke to Itchoo has been restored for traffic movement.
The flash flood has also damaged irrigation canals, crops and agriculture land at Hultana. The standing crops have also come under huge debris.
The EC was informed that the road from Haltuna has been damaged at many places while restoration work has been started. Residents of Haltuna informed the EC that 60 percent of the agriculture land has suffered damage due to floods caused by flash floods.
The EC also visited Rulpoo Mohalla where flood water has damaged crops, trees, irrigation canals. At Chunfracha Ticket, flood has damaged crops trees, irrigation canals link road and a water reservoir.
The EC also visited Thila village where agriculture land has been damaged by flood. The EC said there is an immediate need of protection walls as the village is located in middle of two rivers. He also visited Thila Brok Mohalla where flood has damaged main irrigation canal.
The EC also visited Pangbar where a residential house has suffered full damage and the family has shifted to a nearby residential house. A floor mill has also been damaged. The flood has also washed away agriculture land, crops and trees.
The residents demanded nallah trailing for the river. The residents demanded that the Irrigation and Flood Control Department should send a machine to clear debris from agriculture fields.
The EC also visited Yarkashy where four main irrigation canals have been damaged. Besides, he also visited Bartoo village where three irrigation canals have suffered damage. The residents demanded immediate restoration of irrigation canals on priority. At Yarkashy, residents demanded iron ropes to connect pipes.
He also visited Bartoo Bajai where huge water and debris has accumulated in middle of river which has also blocked a footbridge that has disconnected a mohalla consisting 8 households. The EC directed the Irrigation Department to restore it on priority.
The EC also visited Shargadik village where floods have washed away footbridges. However, an under-construction bridge has been made functional for public movement only. The residents demanded completion of the under construction bridge on priority so that people do not suffer.
At Shargadik Thanboo two mohallas including Skinchar and Kashoo have been disconnected as the foot bridge connecting the two mohallas were damaged.
Toilet of Middle School Shargandik has also been damaged. The students of the two mohallas have also been disconnected from school. The EC directed to immediately restore drinking water to Skinkarchay, Gomo, Khoshu and Yogmakharchoo.
At Shargandik, residents thanked the EC for visiting the area and demanded nallah trailing and ground assessment of damage caused by the floods. They also thanked Suru Valley Division for restoring roads and under one construction bridge for public movement.
It was also informed that Broko Ichoo road has been damaged at multiple locations and has been temporarily restored by Suru Valley Division.
Regarding link road from Shargandik to Ichoo, it was informed that the restoration at 10 spots is under progress and would be made functional soon.
Similarly, Ruylpoo-Hultona link road which was also damaged at five spots the restoration works are under progress.
Another link road from Purkitchay to Yaldik has been damaged at two places while the restoration work is also under progress.
The EC addressed a public gathering at Shargandik in presence of BDC Chairperson, Counscilor, Sarpanch, PRI members and local residents. He assured that he will take up the damage with the concerned authorities. He also assured reconstruction of foot bridges washed away by flood at Khashoo, Skinkarchey and Itchoo.
Later, the EC also visited flood-affected Khandi village where the residents informed him about the damages caused to agriculture land. The EC directed for protection walls at both sides of the river to save the agriculture land from further damage. The flood has also damaged water supply at Khandi. The residents demanded immediate restoration of drinking water facility. At the Khandi village, a footbridge connecting Middle School has also been damaged due to which the students are unable to attend school and get education in a local Imam Bada.
The EC assured the locals that he will take up the issues with Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan for proper redressal.
