Ladakh Screenwriters’ Fair to commence in Leh from 12th-16th Sept

Ladakh provides a scenic beauty that attracts great number of filmmakers from all over the globe. Recognising this as a potential to create opportunities to display talent and professional growth of Ladakhi filmmakers through interactive engagement of aspiring talents, UT Ladakh took a pioneering effort of launching the first edition of “The Himalayan Film Festival (THFF), 2021” (24th-28th September).
As a follow up activity to the mega event of THFF, 2021for Ladakhi filmmakers to horn their skills in screenplay writing, the Department of Information & Public Relations, UT Ladakh is organising a five days film and marketingworkshop under the banner “Ladakh Screenwriters’ Fair” in collaboration with Film Companion, Mumbai from 12th-16th September, 2022 at Shangri-la Hotel, Leh.
The main objective of organising this fair is to build a viable advertisement and marketing platform for promotion of regional films through OTT platform. The idea of this workshop is to familiarise the filmmakers with this space, build scripts appropriate for digital release and elaborate on how to position one’s script to reach and appeal to a wider audience, considering their common interest in Indian films.
The 5-day writing workshop will cover different aspects of writing for various film mediums and provide a collaborative platform to learn from fellow filmmakers. The workshop will have renowned personalities from Indian cinema including names like Shakun Batra, Satyanshu Singh, Ayesha DeVitra, Abhay Pannu, Raj Nadimoru, Nikkhil Advani, Avinash Arun, Shaunak Sen, Deepti D. Cunha and Leena Yadav. The sessions include Screenwriting for feature film, Writing for Documentary, Episodic Writing, All about OTT and Marketing and Mentorship Calls wherein, the attendees would be given an opportunity to have a 1:1 mentorship session with any of the facilitators that were part of the workshop with the objective to provide the filmmakers with focused feedback and guidance on an idea they are keen on taking forward.
Film Companion is India’s leading entertainment journalism platform and the team comprised of national award-winning journalists – Anupama Chopra and Baradwaj Rangan. It is a registered Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) firm. It is Pan-India and covers entertainment from across the country and abroad. Curated by Anupama Chopra, the workshopdesign and engaging of renowned experts from Indian Film industry is managed by Film Companion with an approach to extend support and build capacities for filmmakers of Ladakh and enhance the skills of storytelling and writing scripts for a successful film to pitch for contemporary platform of OTT and distribution.
In total the workshop will have 20 participants that were selected through proper procedure after inviting application through google form that was open to local filmmakers (professional/amateur), professional script writers and students of Mass Communication & Journalism of Colleges in Ladakh. Participants experience will be used throughout the workshop to illustrate principles and connect techniques to participants’ work in script writing and marketing of their films.
