EJM College observes Sign Language Day

Leh, Sept 23: Department of Sociology and Department of Mass Communication and Journalism observed International Sign Language Day today. The event was held in continuation with International Week of the Deaf celebrated every year from 19 to 25 September all over the world.
The programme started with a demonstration of sign language by the students of 5th Semester. It was followed by a screening of an Oscar nominated film ‘The Silent Child’.
At the end, a short skit was presented by EJM students on the theme ‘Sign Language Unite Us’. It highlighted the importance of inclusivity and fight against inequalities and injustice. It also stressed that a small help and support from a friend, family or teacher can change the lives of deaf people and other sign language users.
Earlier, Assistant Professor, Mass Communication, Hajira Bano gave the welcome speech and later the vote of thanks was proposed by Assistant Professor, Sociology, Samina Rehman.
