Interactive session with ICDS functionaries organised by NBT during the Ladakh Book Festival.

Leh, July 14: Anganwadi workers of ICDS (Social Welfare) joined a session on early childhood education tools and activity-based teaching by Kanchan Wanchoo Sharma, Editor of Children’s Literature, National Book Trust (NBT), organised on the sidelines of the ongoing Ladakh Book Festival at NDS Ground, Leh.
Kanchan Wanchoo Sharma shared insights on dealing with young minds, and stressed the importance of teaching dimensions, shapes, shadows, counting methods, colours, etc. to children, and highlighted methods to grab and retain their attention. Additionally, she also spoke of puzzles, games, role-play, skits, story-telling, demonstration using live objects, etc as examples of activity-based learning and teaching method.
While commending the Anganwadi workers for their tireless efforts, Kanchan urged the ICDS workers to be polite, encouraging, realistic, firm, and consistent with children and make their growing and learning experience fun and interesting.
The ICDS Supervisors and Anganwadi workers also shared their experiences with various teaching tools being used at the centres. Further, they put forth requests to NBT for organising an elaborate training for the workers to further improve their teaching techniques.
Commissioner Secretary, Social & Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, Padma Angmo also visited the ongoing Ladakh Book Festival.
