    Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) reviews damages caused by floods & necessary measures being taken to provide relief to affected families.

    Leh, July 22, 2023: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra held a meeting with the concerned stakeholders at Raj Niwas to review the damages caused by floods triggered by rain and necessary measures being taken to provide relief to the affected families.
    At the outset, HLG appreciated personnel from Indian Army, ITBP, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) along with PWD, Mechanical Department and local volunteers for their prompt action and service to the people affected by the flood. He highlighted the need for necessary measures along with putting the UTDRF personnel on alert for taking swift action in case of such floods at more intensity in future. He also emphasised the need for prompt communication from affected areas from people affected by the flood.
    HLG stated that the recruitment of personnel for the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has to start now on a fast-track basis along with the formation of two committees for Leh and Kargil with the Chief Engineer of the BRO projects as the Nodal Officers who will ensure recce and ensure timely communication in case of natural calamities and initiating process for relief measures. He instructed DC Leh to ensure that boulders and sludge causing the blockage in the traditional nullahs/water channels are cleared along on a priority basis by initiating anti-encroachment drives to remove illegal construction and encroachment along the water channels in coordination with Municipal ward members in a planned manner. He also instructed the concerned officials to ensure that there are proper lighting arrangements by UTDRF in affected areas for the smooth conduct of relief work.
    HLG instructed Deputy Commissioner Leh to issue necessary directions for progressing the matter and identify affected people, including migrant labourers, and provide ration and bedding to them along with establishing a relief camp to ensure that none of the affected persons sleeps on an empty stomach.
    There was a detailed discussion on conducting a hydrological survey along with the long-term mapping of Leh town to control the haphazard construction of houses; increasing stipend paid to Civil Defence volunteers to make it more attractive; the establishment of a 24×7 control room in case of natural calamities and to ensure better coordination among the forces indulged in relief works; restoring power lines along with telecommunication network, etc.
    Councillor, Panamik, Shri Tsering Sangdup and Nominated Councillor, Shri Phuntsog Nurboo requested additional machinery and manpower in affected areas in Leh town, provide ration and bedding to the affected people and restore the telecommunication network in villages.
    Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Shri Tashi Gyalson; Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Advisor to HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Commissioner Secretary, PWD, Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu; ADGP Ladakh Police, Shri DS Jamwal; Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar; officials from Indian Army, BRO, Ladakh Police, PWD and UTDRF were present in the meeting.
