    Hon’ble Lt. Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) inspects mock drill exercise on relief and rescue operations in case of natural calamities.

    Leh, Aug 04, 2023: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), inspected the mock drill exercises conducted by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with UT Disaster Management Authority (UTDMA) on relief and rescue operations in case of natural calamities such as earthquakes, flash floods and fire incidents, at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Leh.
    During his interaction with the personnel of NDRF India, UTDRF, Aapda Mitra and NCC cadets, the HLG appreciated them for giving a well-coordinated mock drill exercise on rescue and relief operations in case of natural calamities. Stating that there should be proper coordination of the body and the mind, the HLG asked them to practice hard and be ready to provide assistance during actual events. Highlighting the importance of their cooperation, the HLG informed about efforts being made by the Administration to increase the strength of UTDRF personnel.
    Consultant, ME & IRS, NDMA, Major Gen Sudhir Bahl (Retd) informed the HLG that the mock drill exercises on relief and rescue operations are being organised by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (UTDMA) and UT Disaster Response Force (UTDRF) in Leh and Kargil. He informed about various precautionary measures being taken during rescue and relief operations to ensure the safety of people affected by natural calamities. He also informed about various machinery/equipment and specialised trained staff used by them to provide the best possible assistance to the affected people.
    Major Gen Sudhir Bahl (Retd) informed about canines used by them to find out trapped people. He extended orientation support to the UTDRF personnel for their capacity-building. He emphasised the need to strengthen the manpower of UTDRF. He stated that NDMA is committed to providing training for all and asked UT Ladakh to submit a proposal for the same.
    The mock drill was conducted as part of a precautionary measure to test the preparedness of employees and technical staff to meet any kind of emergency situation.
    Similar mock drills were conducted at various locations in Leh and Kargil.
    Additional Secretary, NDMA, Shri Alok Kumar; Secretary, Disaster Management, Ladakh, Shri Amit Sharma, IAS; Consultant ME & IRS, NDMA, Major Gen. Sudhir Bahl (Retd); Chairman DDMA, Leh/Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shri Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS; SSP Leh, Smt PD Nitya, personnel from NDRF, UTDRF, Aapda Mitra, NCC cadets and other government officials were present during the mock drill exercise.
