    Expresses hope to see Ladakh becoming one of top UTs in country due to hard work of people of Ladakh along with support from GoI
    Leh, Nov 01, 2023: The Hon’ble President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, attended the Civic Reception event hosted in her honour at the Sindhu Ghat, Shey in the presence of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
    Expressing her happiness for meeting the people of Ladakh at the Sindhu Ghat, the Hon’ble President stated that Sindhu River exists in the depth of historical, cultural and spiritual consciousness of all Indians. She also stated that the people of India have a special feeling of affection and respect for the people of Ladakh due to the contributions made by the people of Ladakh in protecting the nation.
    Stating that the people of Ladakh are known for their bravery and their faith in Lord Buddha, the Hon’ble President highlighted the potential of spiritual, adventure, eco-tourism and wellness/health tourism in Ladakh. She highlighted the contributions of various personalities and organisations in the overall development of Ladakh, viz. Chewang Norphel for his innovative artificial glacier technique, His Eminence Thiksey Rinpoche, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Dr Tsering Norboo, Dr Tsering Landol, Akhon Asgar Ali Basharat and Tsering Tsultim, etc. She also highlighted the Geographical Indication (GI) tagging for Raktsey Karpo breed of apricot, Woodcarving and Pashmina from Ladakh.
    The Hon’ble President expressed her hope to see Ladakh becoming one of the top Union Territories in the country due to the hard work and dedication of the people of Ladakh along with the support from the Government of India.
    The Hon’ble President also offered prayers to Sindhu River in the presence of Buddhist monks, Christian pastor, Muslim clerics and Hindu pandit at the Sindhu Ghat.
    Calling himself fortunate for getting the chance to welcome the Hon’ble President of India at the Sindhu Ghat on behalf of the people of Ladakh, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), in his welcome speech, also commended the contributions of Defence/Paramilitary Forces and Police for the national security. He highlighted the significance of Sindhu River for pilgrims across India and also for people from other parts of the world who come in large numbers to take part in Sindhu Darshan to seek blessings from Sindhu River.
    Thanking the Government of India led by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, for its continued support in the development of Ladakh and for coming up with initiatives such as Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat under which the UT Administration of Ladakh along with both Hill Councils send cultural troupes comprising boys and girls from different schools of Ladakh to showcase Ladakh’s rich culture and heritage on its 5th Foundation on October 31 at various Raj Bhawans/Raj Niwas in all states and UTs of India. He also highlighted the sustainable development model along with carbon-neutrality initiatives adopted by the UT Administration while undertaking developmental projects in Ladakh. He also informed that UT Administration, both Hill Councils, PRIs and Municipal ward members are working in close coordination with each other for the overall development of Ladakh.
    The HLG sought blessings from the Hon’ble President to help Ladakh become one of the best UTs in the country.
    The Hon’ble Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Shri Tashi Gyalson; Hon’ble Chairman of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon and Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, presented the Hon’ble President with traditional khataks and mementos.
    Artists from Ladakh performed on Shondol, Mentok Stanmo and Jabro dances in honour of the Hon’ble President of India.
    Hon’ble Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Shri Tashi Gyalson; Hon’ble Chairman of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon; Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Executive Councillors/Councillors of LAHDC Leh and Kargil; Administrative Secretaries; ADGP Ladakh, Dr SD Singh Jamwal; Deputy Commissioners of Leh and Kargil; SSP Leh; Chairpersons of Block Development Councils; Municipal ward members, heads of religious organisations, prominent citizens of Ladakh and district officials were present during the Civic Reception.
