    Kargil, Aug 12, 2024: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Suhail Ahmed today chaired a preparatory meeting of officers, stakeholders and representatives ahead of a mock drill exercise on earthquakes, cloudbursts and GLOF disasters to be held on August 22, 2024.
    The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, PHE/I&FC, Maqbool Hussain; ASP Kargil Nitin Yadav; Principal GDC, Kargil, Amina Qari; Nodal Officer Project Vijayak (BRO), Rohit Arora; District Programme Officer ICDS, Nargis Bano; CMO Kargil, Dr Liyaqat Ali; SDMs, Dysp Telecom, Riyaz Ahmad Bhat; HQ Assistant to DC Office Arifa Iqbal; ARTO Kargil, Khadim Hussain; AD DIPR Kargil, Raza Ali, Tehsildars, Engineers, Police and Army officers, besides others attended the meeting.
    During the meeting, discussions and deliberations were held on different aspects of disaster management keeping in view the geographical location of the district.
    The ADC said that the mock drill will be conducted in view of any disaster management situation including possible earthquake, cloudbursts etc. and keep all the departments ready for any kind of eventuality.
    He said that mock drill exercise is aimed to make every department ready to tackle any kind of disaster situation. During the meeting, ADC Kargil said the mock drill exercise will be held on August 22 and all the preparations will be made to make the drill successful.
    The meeting was informed about the five incident sites for mock drill exercise in Kargil town. The ADC also instructed all the SDMs to identify one site each at Sub Division level. He directed all the departments to make preparations for the mock drill exercise for any emergency situation like flood, earthquake cloudbursts and make plans accordingly.
    Besides, taking review of health, PHE, Police departments, the role of all other departments and volunteers were thoroughly discussed at the time of any kind of disaster/emergency situation.
    During the meeting, the planning of equipment and manpower for mock drill was also discussed. The establishment of the staging area, incident command post, relief camp, manpower, equipment, disaster management plan of each department etc. were also discussed in detail and the line departments were directed to keep the machinery and other resources ready for the same.
    The ADC also sought suggestions from officers and officials of different departments about how to tackle any kind of disaster management situation and thoroughly discussed the measures to be taken if needed.
