Munsel Society appeal for Special School Recognition and Land Allocation for Munsel School

August 23, 2024: The First Lady of UT Ladakh, Neelam Mishra visited Munsel Society to inaugurate the nursery hall of Munsel school on August 22 at Saboo Thang. Munsel society had earlier submitted a proposal demanding funds to buy different kind of resource for the specially-abled children at their nursery. The fund was approved by Deputy Commissioner under the PMKKKY Scheme, from District Mineral Foundation Trust, with support from District Social Welfare Office. During the function, Dr Tsering Landol was also present along with District Social Welfare Officer Ms Nilza Wangmo.
During the visit, CEO Munsel School, Tsewang Yangzes presented a letter to the first lady seeking assistance in two critical areas that will significantly enhance the ability of the school to serve the remarkable children and to break people’s prejudice against disabilities. Through the letter, she requested to recognize Munsel School as a Special School officially and to allot land to have a permanent special school facility in Ladakh.
The school aims to create a nurturing environment where every child can reach their full potential. It is an institution dedicated to the education and development of specially-abled children. Tsewang Yangzes adds, “Recognition would be not only validating our efforts but also help us access essential resources and support to further improve the quality of education and care we provide. And a dedicated piece of land would allow us to build a properly equipped school that is tailored to the unique needs of our student, including accessible classrooms, therapy rooms, and recreational spaces for the long-term run of our school. It will also enable us to create a safe, welcoming, and fully inclusive educational environment”.
Munsel School is a teaching structure for mentally and physically challenged children from across Ladakh. It is a dedicated institution providing education and support to children with special needs in the community, which aims to make these children self-dependent in the future.
