    Mock drill exercise on GLOF conducted at Taisuru, Sankoo.
    Kargil, August 24, 2024: A mock exercise on GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood) disaster was successfully conducted in Subdivision Sankoo on 22-08-2024, at Taisuru, Chilung Nalla.
    The mock drill waz led by Sub Divisional Magistrate Sankoo, Asgar Ali, who along with a team of other officers monitored the exercise.
    The drill was conducted at a GLOF disaster-vulnerable site to enhance preparedness measures and synergy among all the concerned departments to deal with any eventuality effectively, ensuring minimum damage to people who may be affected due to the sudden occurrence of natural calamities.
    Furthermore, the exercise was aimed to raise awareness among people regarding precautions and measures for natural calamities.
    Various line departments showed their active participation in their respective roles regarding services to be provided to affected people during any distressing time of disasters.
    The departments involved in the drill were police personnel, revenue officers and officials, the power department, the public health department, the health department, and volunteers from religious organizations. Each concerned line department played a key and pivotal role in the mock drill wherein a GLOF disaster was simulated.
    As part of the exercise medical camp, staging area, relief camp, and control room were also established during the simulation of GLOF for the immediate evacuation. All the concerned departments demonstrated their assigned roles in close tandem in mock drill simulation on GLOF.
    The SDM closely monitored the overall activities and ensured that the involved departments followed the due protocol of disaster, ensuring the maximum survival of people with minimum availability of resources during the drill.
    Besides, during the GLOF drill simulation, the management of time, mobilization of personnel and equipment to the affected site, and the mode and methods of communication were properly tested to provide timely assistance to the people at the time of calamity.
    The role of all team members in the drill remains commendable and deserving of appraisal, especially the role of the volunteers, whose role always remains exemplary in any disasters throughout Kargil, which is a live example.
    The exercise concluded with a briefing from the SDM Sankoo, Tehsildar Sankoo, and other officials. They reviewed the performances of concerned departments in the drill and shared strategies and techniques to enhance and strengthen the preparedness measures to overcome any emergency situation swiftly.
    In the end, SDM Sankoo expressed gratitude to all departments and acknowledged their active response in the drill regarding their respective assigned roles and responsibilities. They also simultaneously appreciated the efforts and endeavors of all the participants in the drill simulation on GLOF disaster.
