    Two days workshop on Promotion and Development cooperatives in UT Ladakh was organised by National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), New Delhi in collaboration with Cooperative Department UT Ladakh.

    Leh, September 2, 2024: Two days workshop on Promotion and Development cooperatives in UT Ladakh was organised by National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), New Delhi in collaboration with Cooperative Department UT Ladakh from 30th to 31st August,2024 at conference hall of DIHAR, DRDO Leh. More than 250 delegates/members from various cooperative Societies from both Leh and Kargil Districts, officers and Officials from Cooperative Department, officers from NCDC, NABARD and NCUI participated in the program.
    The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS Advisor to Hon’ble LG Ladakh in presence Chairman, NCUI, Sh Dileep Sanghani, Additional Registrar Cooperative UT Ladakh Sajjad Qadiri and other officers.
    In his address Dr Pawan Kotwal said that nature has bestowed Ladakh with very special and unique Agri-horticulture and livestock produce which have very good market potential and various types of Cooperative Societies are already engaged with the marketing of these produce. He advised the members of cooperative societies that as envisaged under Cooperative Act, there is a democratic member control in a cooperative system and that transparency in accounting and management are key to a successful cooperative society. He complimented NCUI for organizing such a workshop program for cooperators of Ladakh and requested for such training in Ladakh in future too. Speaking about establishing a cooperative training institute in UT Ladakh, the advisor ensured full support of the UT administration in infrastructure development for the Training Institute for which NCUI agreed to provide faculty for organizing training courses in Cooperative management and accountancy.
    On the second days of workshop, Stanzin Chosphel, Hon’ble Executive Councillor (Cooperative) LAHDC, Leh was chief guest of closing ceremony of the workshop. In his remarks, Stanzin Chosphel expressed his happiness and gratitude to NCUI for organizing such meaningful workshop in Leh and stressed upon the cooperative members to ensure their full participation in every cooperative related activity for their economic to acquaint themselves with the latest potential business models and avenues for development of cooperative sector and ensured to provide funds for training programs through LAHDC, Leh.
    Deputy Registrar Cooperative Leh Dr Mohd Abass gave a brief overview of activities of cooperative societies of Ladakh and various interventions for development of the cooperative sector through various schemes under UT and LAHDC budgets.
    Dr Zakir Hussain also threw light on role of cooperatives in development of rural economy. He also requested NCUI to organize such programs in Kargil district too in near future. Representatives from various organizations viz NCDC,NABARD, Unati, Looms of Ladakh women Cooperative Leh and Fruit Growers and Marketing Cooperative Society Kargil also participated actively in the program.
