    CEC conducts meeting regarding the Wildlife Boundary Rationalisation in Nubra
    Leh,Sept 28: Hon’ble Chairman/CEC ,LAHDC Leh Adv. Tashi Gyalson,along with the Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk;Executive Councillor for Minority Ghulam Mehdi and Councillors of Nubra, conducted a meeting with the Nubra Wildlife Boundary Rationalization Committee to discuss the draft proposal from the UT Administration.
    The committee requested additional time to consult with all stakeholders, noting that the issue is complex and must be carefully considered, especially in light of Nubra’s new district status. They also mentioned that the committee’s formal position had been submitted to the Hon’ble Governor the previous day; however, upon the CEC’s request, they agreed to reassess their position in the light of proposal submitted by UT administration.
    CEC Tashi Gyalson informed the committee that the Council has been actively pursuing this matter with both the UT Administration and the Union Government for the past three years. After more than 15 formal consultation meet, a formal proposal, detailing the problems, rationale, and a newly proposed map for all three protected areas was submitted to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor in January 2024. The CEC emphasized that this proposal was the result of a complex process involving the management of various stakeholders’ opinions and interests.
    CEC Gyalson firmly rejected speculations that the Council did not submit the proposal. He reiterated the Council’s deep responsibility to safeguard the interests of the people and stated that any agreement to the proposal would only occur if it is reasonable, scientific, and protect the basic rights and interests of the residents of Nubra, Changthang, and Hemis with people’s consensus to it.
