Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil flags off second batch of para-veterinarians to enhance livestock services.
Kargil, October 05, 2024: To boost quality of livestock services in Kargil, 2nd batch of 15 para-veterinarians and trained attendants from Animal Husbandry Department Kargil was flagged off today by Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil.
This batch will undergo a 10-day specialized training program at North Regional Demonstrations and Training Centre, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Jalandhar.
The training commencing from October 07 is aimed at providing the participants with advanced skills in artificial insemination (AI) and animal health management.
These are considered essential components for improving livestock productivity and ensuring better animal healthcare in Kargil, which is crucial to the region’s economy and rural livelihood.
Dr. Gulzar Hussain, in his address during the flag-off ceremony, emphasized the importance of this initiative, explaining that improving the technical capabilities of para-veterinarians and trained attendants will have far-reaching effects.
He said the newly acquired expertise in artificial insemination techniques will be a game-changer for the district’s breeding practices, especially for upgrading genetic potential of livestock. With enhanced animal health management skills, the participants will be able to tackle a wide range of veterinary challenges in the field, ensuring a healthier and more productive livestock population.
Artificial insemination is particularly important in regions like Kargil, where improving livestock breeds can significantly boost milk production, reduce disease susceptibility, and increase overall livestock resilience.
By equipping para-vets with these advanced AI techniques, the Animal Husbandry Department aims to improve the reproductive efficiency of livestock, leading to higher-quality offspring and, ultimately, better income prospects for farmers.
This initiative is part of the department’s broader efforts to modernize and professionalize animal husbandry services in Kargil. The department envisions a sustainable and farmer-focused approach that ensures long-term benefits for the local livestock sector.
Dr. Hussain stressed that these skills will enable the para-veterinarians and attendants to offer better support to farmers in maintaining animal health and improving livestock management practices.
This batch marks the second of three planned groups who will receive this specialized training at NDDB Jalandhar. A first batch of 15 para-vets and attendants successfully completed their training earlier this year in the month of September and one more batch is scheduled for the next phase in the month of November 2024.
Through this phased approach, the Animal Husbandry Department is ensuring that a significant number of personnel are well-equipped with modern skills, ultimately expanding the department’s capacity to deliver high-quality veterinary and livestock services across Kargil district.
Dr. Hussain also took the opportunity to express his sincere thanks to the Director of the North Regional Demonstrations and Training Centre, NDDB Jalandhar, for their consistent support and for providing such a high-calibre training program.
He acknowledged the collaborative role played by the NDDB in enhancing the technical skills of the department’s workforce, noting that this partnership is pivotal in achieving the department’s mission to uplift the livestock sector in the district.
This training is part of the larger vision of the Animal Husbandry Department to improve the overall quality of livestock management in the district. It aligns with the department’s focus on sustainable livestock development, improved breeding practices, and animal healthcare services. These efforts are intended to promote the economic welfare of local farmers, who rely heavily on livestock for their livelihoods.
By investing in the technical skills of para-veterinarians and trained attendants, the department is taking a proactive step toward ensuring that Kargil’s livestock sector remains robust and capable of meeting future challenges.
This initiative not only strengthens the professional capacity of animal health workers but also directly benefits the rural farming communities of Kargil District by improving the services they receive.
It will ensure that the farmers can access the most up-to-date techniques in livestock management, leading to better productivity, healthier animals, and an overall improvement in rural income levels.
