    CEC Kargil attends showcase event of successful button mushroom cultivation at Thuina.
    Kargil, October 19, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended a showcase event organized by KVK Kargil-II Zanskar, highlighting the successful cultivation of button mushrooms by trainees in the upper belt of Kargil at Thuina. The event marked a significant milestone in local agricultural entrepreneurship.
    The programme saw the participation of several key figures, including Councillor Thangdumbur, Councillor Barsoo, Councillor Saliskote, Principal Scientist & Head KVK-II Zanskar, Dr. Shabir, Senior Scientist KVK-Zanskar, Block Development Officer (BDO) Sankoo, District Mission Manager NRLM-Kargil, and BPM, along with local villagers.
    In his address, CEC Dr. Akhoon expressed his commitment to empowering the youth, both men and women, by promoting start-ups that enable financial independence. He noted with pride that the first such programme was organized in his constituency’s village, Thuina.
    The CEC praised the mushroom cultivation efforts and urged the use of “organic product” labels on packaging to promote the produce. He further encouraged the trainees to explore loan opportunities from the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Finance Commission and take advantage of government schemes to boost self-employment rather than job-seeking. He also informed about the 90% subsidy on organic manure to further support local agricultural initiatives.
    Dr. Akhoon emphasized the importance of quality education, noting that government school enrolment in Kargil has reached approximately 17,000 students, reflecting a positive outlook. He assured his commitment to improving the living standards of the people during his tenure.
    During the event, the CEC highlighted various developments in Thuina village and called for unity among the villagers to ensure continued progress. He expressed gratitude to KVK Kargil-II for organizing the programme and assured the Council’s support for future initiatives.
    In their remarks, Councillors Thangdumbur, Barsoo, and Saliskote commended the efforts and urged for similar programmes to be organized in other constituencies to spread the benefits of agricultural entrepreneurship.
    Principal Scientist Dr. Mehdi informed the gathering that this is the first successful establishment of a button mushroom center in Kargil. He credited the trainees for their dedication and hard work throughout the cultivation process, which contributed to the success of the initiative.
    District Mission Manager NRLM-Kargil, Abhishek Kumar, announced plans to establish new training centers from Saliskote to Parkachik and promised to take up the selection of interested individuals from SHGs for such programmes with higher authorities.
    The event concluded with trainees sharing their experiences, highlighting the learning and growth they achieved through the button mushroom cultivation training.
