GDC Drass in collaboration with District Hospital Kargil organizes workshop on mental health.
Kargil, October 23, 2024: Government Degree College Drass in collaboration with District Hospital Kargil today organized one day workshop on mental health.
The workshop was held in two sessions. The first session underscored the understanding of
mental health through the perspective of Yoga. The session was conducted by expert of Yoga Niharika Sharma. This particular session was more practical than theoretical.
In this session faculty and students together on directions of expert performed various yogic practices and the significance of each yogic practice in relation to our physical, mental and spiritual health.
The next session was carried by expert members, Dr Murtaza Ali, Consultant Psychiatrist and Zakir Hussain, Psychologist from district hospital Kargil.
Dr. Murtaza discussed mental health issues with students from the modern science perspective and made them aware about causes and effects of substance abuse, suicidal thoughts and chronic mental disorders.
Whereas, Zakir in his presentation asserted the importance of coping methods of stress and anxiety. After the experts presentation, question-answer session with students was conducted. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Incharge Principal, Mohd Hassan.
The program was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen, Director Sports and moderated by Dr Haroon Rashid (faculty history) under the supervision of principal of the college Dr Amjad Ali Abassi.
