    Stakeholders meeting on redevelopment of Old Bazar, Silk Route held in Kargil.
    Kargil, October 25, 2024:
    On the directions of Secretary Tourism Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik and Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani today chaired a stakeholders meeting on the re-development of Old Bazar and Silk Route Kargil today at TFC Kargil.
    The project is aimed to develop the centuries-old heritage site as a prominent tourist heritage site. CEO, KDA, AO, KDA, XEN, KDA, president of the Ready Made Garment Association and Footwear Kargil, Ladakh, consultants of (NEEDS), an architectural consultancy of the project, contractor, traders/shopkeepers and other concerned stakeholders were present during the meeting.
    A detailed discussion was held on strategies and the action plan for heritage conservation of Old Bazar Kargil. During the meeting, consultants presented the current project developments and gathered insights and suggestions from stakeholders.
    The consultant outlined redevelopment plans for the historic Old Bazar, sharing proposed designs for streets, plazas, public conveniences, drainage, shop renovations etc. with stakeholders.
    During the meeting, consultants informed the chair that they conducted a thorough survey of each shop included in the Old Town redevelopment project.
    Addressing traders/shopkeepers concerns over business disruptions during shop renovations, ADC strictly directed contractors to ensure renovations proceed stepwise, with each shop completed within 15 days. He stressed that any delay would require compensation for business losses.
    The president and other shopkeepers voluntarily agreed upon to keep their respective business establishments shut for 15 days to facilitate execution of works & in case of delay demanded business loss compensation.
    The ADC said the project will increase the beauty of the heritage market and requested the stakeholders for their cooperation for the successful execution of the project. He also said tourism activity and living conditions can be improved by this project.
    The UT Administration Ladakh and Department of Tourism is committed to map Kargil as the best tourist destination.
