Kargil, November 11, 2024: In a groundbreaking achievement, KVK Kargil-II Zanskar, led by Chief Scientist, Dr. Mohd Mehdi has conducted its first-ever successful trials on Dingree mushroom cultivation across multiple locations, including Ubrak, during the autumn.
This training and trial mark a significant advancement for the tribal farming community of Zanskar, offering them a sustainable source of income and nutritional security.
The initial results of this demonstration remained unexpectedly promising, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of this mushroom variety in the cold arid conditions of Zanskar using aerial space of green house. By introducing this innovation to local farmers, KVK hopes to create new opportunities that will enhance the livelihoods of the tribal population.
With this success, KVK Kargil-II Zanskar is optimistic that Dingree mushroom production will become a reliable source of economic growth and nutritional security for the area since the Zanskar sub division has the highest number of Ladakhi Green Houses in the district.
