    Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Leh, celebrates World Heritage Week .

    Leh, November 25, 2024: The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Leh, celebrated World Heritage Week with an awareness program on “Importance of Heritage in Ladakh” at the DC Office conference hall, Leh. Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Art and Culture, Sh. Stanzin Chosphel, was the Chief Guest during the ocassion.
    The program was attended by various scholars and researchers, including Ven. Thupstan Paldan, Ven. Dorjey, Dr. Sonam Wangchuk (Himalayan Culture Heritage Foundation), Prof. Tashi Dawa, Prof. Phunchok Angmo (University of Ladakh), Dr. Sonam Spalzin (Archeological Survey of India), and many others.
    During the program, scholars and researchers discussed the importance of conserving and preserving Ladakh’s unique heritage sites. They shared views on the tangible and intangible heritage of Ladakh, while also emphasising the preservation of language and oral traditions.
    Hon’ble Executive Councillor Stanzin Chosphel stressed the importance of conserving and preserving Ladakh’s rich heritage. He mentioned that Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, supports various projects for the conservation and preservation of Ladakh’s tangible and intangible heritage.
    Executive Councillor Chosphel requested scholars and researchers to write about Ladakh’s rich history through their research. He also mentioned that a subsidy scheme has been launched by LAHDC to support writers and encourage them to write on various themes related to Ladakh.
    The Executive Councillor also mentioned a project documenting oral histories in the Singay Lalok region of Sham, which will be expanded throughout Ladakh to conserve oral history traditions. He also informed that a project to conserve and restore old thangkas will begin next year in collaboration with IGNCA.
    The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Registering Officer Antiquities, Sh. Khadim Hussain.
