    CEC Kargil chairs meeting to review snow clearance, Ramadan preparations.

    Directs BRO, Project Vijayak to expedite snow clearance on Zojila axis
    Kargil, March 04, 2025: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today chaired a high-level meeting at Council Secretariat to review the status of essential commodities, snow clearance operations, AN-32 flight services, examinations, healthcare, water supply, and other public concerns.
    Executive Councillor, Social Welfare and PHE, Additional SP, Chief Engineer PHE,OC, SSRCC, DIR Works, VIJAYAK, Dy SP, Traffic, CMO Kargil, AD FCS&CA, CAHO Kargil, Chief Education Officer, SDMs of Sankoo and Shakar Chiktan, XEN Mechanical, XEN PDD, ARTO Kargil, GE, NHIDCL, AR, Cooperatives, and President of Merchant Association, among others.
    Chief Coordinator AN-32 Courier Service and Airforce Station, Incharge SDM Zanskar, and Incharge SDM Drass, attended the meeting virtually.
    During the meeting, the CEC urged the Chief Coordinator of the AN-32 Courier Service to arrange additional flights, citing frequent cancellations and asked for an IL-76 Air Force flight to transport stranded Kargil-bound passengers from Jammu.
    The concerned officer informed that the matter has already been taken up with the Ministry of Defence, Government of India and is awaiting a positive response.
    Dr Akhoon reviewed the snow clearance efforts in Drass and directed the Mechanical Department to clear the inner routes at the earliest. He instructed BRO and Project Vijayak to expedite snow clearance on Zojila axis and appreciated their work despite harsh climatic conditions.
    In Zanskar, he assured early clearance of Padum-Raro road. He directed NHIDCL to clear the Panikhar-Zanskar road, to which he was informed that the road is open for one-way traffic, and widening work is in progress.
    The CEC instructed the Assistant Director of FCS&CA to operationalize the flour mill at the earliest in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.
    He directed the PHE Department to ensure tanker water supply, asking the ADC Kargil to arrange necessary fuel under revenue expenditure for the same.
    The Fisheries Department was instructed to supply fish to the market while the ADC was directed to regulate prices of the fish.
    The Indian Gas Agency and HPCL were also consulted regarding the gas supply.
    The CEC directed the Mechanical and Medical Departments to coordinate and prepare a roster for heating facilities in hospitals.
    The Animal Husbandry Department was instructed to intensify sterilization efforts for female stray dogs.
    For the stranded drivers in Drass, the CEC directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner to arrange food provisions.
    The Chief Education Officer, Kargil, informed the CEC that an examination center for contractual lecturers has been set up in Jammu. He assured that if more students from Zanskar require arrangements, necessary actions will be taken.
    The CEC called for enhanced inter-departmental coordination to improve public welfare services. He instructed the Cooperative Department to provide goods on discount rates in view of the holy month of Ramadan.
    He lauded all departments for their continuous efforts in maintaining essential services such as electricity, water, medical facilities, and road connectivity.
    CEC reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing public grievances and ensuring smooth service delivery during the winter and Ramadan. Later, President Merchant Association Kargil thanked the Hill Council Kargil for redressing their issues.
