Councillor Cha-led delegation from Zanskar calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).

Leh, March 6, 2025: A delegation from Zanskar led by Councillor, Cha constituency, Stanzin Lakpa called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary, Dr Vasanthakumar N, IAS: Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS; Director, Finance, Dr Safdar Ali, IRS and Director, Health Services, Dr Thinles were present in the meeting.
Stanzin Lakpa apprised the HLG of the recent incident in which the main assembly hall of Phugtal Monastery was damaged due to the falling of a boulder from the cave ceiling. He requested the HLG’s intervention in preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the restoration of the assembly hall and store at Phugtal Monastery along with directing concerned officials to provide ration and necessary items to resident monks of the Monastery.
Stanzin Lakpa also raised other issues, viz. the opening of IGNOU study centre at Zanskar to facilitate studies of students seeking higher education; the demand to include Shun-Sarchu and Rangdum in the newly announced Zanskar district, etc.
The HLG, after proper deliberation, asked the concerned officials to take up the matter of providing funds to restore the damaged assembly hall of Phugtal monastery with the Ministry of Minority Affairs, GoI. He also asked Secretary, Higher Education to look into the demand of providing IGNOU study centre at Zanskar. He also informed the delegates that the New District Committee has already submitted their report based on their meetings with the stakeholders and public.
