Ladakh, March 7, 2025 – The (A) Secretary of the Department of Law and Justice, UT of Ladakh, convened a meeting today in his office chamber, bringing together all Law Officers of the department. The Law Officers stationed in Kargil joined the discussion via video conferencing.
During the meeting, the Secretary engaged with the officers on various departmental issues, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring cases pending before different courts. Special attention was given to critical matters, including contempt cases and Public Interest Litigations (PILs).
Officers were urged to stay updated with the latest court orders to ensure timely and effective legal responses.
A key point of discussion was the ongoing amendments to 22 state laws. Additionally, the Law Officers highlighted concerns regarding workload, as many are currently assigned more than three departments each.
Given the challenges of managing multiple responsibilities, they requested that the matter be placed before the higher authorities and the Central Committee for consideration of outsourcing legal staff on a contract basis against the vacant sanctioned posts.
The District Legal Office of Kargil also raised concerns about manpower shortages and emphasized the need for hiring personnel against vacant sanctioned posts.
In response, the Secretary assured that the issue of shortage of Legal officers shall be taken up with the higher authorities.
The meeting served as a platform for constructive dialogue, reinforcing the department’s commitment to strengthening the legal framework and addressing operational challenges effectively.
