7-Day Training Program on “Micro-Irrigation System” concludes with certificate distribution.

Kargil, March 28, 2025: A week-long training program on the “Micro-Irrigation System” concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants. This program, conducted for the first time in Kargil, was sponsored by the Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC) Leh under the NCPAH-PDMC and organized by the School of Agricultural Science and Technology, Leh and Kargil, University of Ladakh, from March 22nd to 28th, 2025.
The event was graced by the Honourable Councillor of the Yourbaltak Constituency, Shri Manzoor Hussain, who attended as the Chief Guest. Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Dean of Agricultural Science, and Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Kargil, were the Guests of Honour.
The training program focused on micro-irrigation systems and was attended by 30 farmers from various villages in Kargil, including Poyen, Minjee, Shiliktsey, Baroo, and Titichumik. The primary objective was to raise awareness about water-efficient technologies, particularly drip irrigation, and to educate the farmers on its installation and maintenance in the Ladakh region.
The valedictory ceremony began with a welcome note by Stanzin Yangsdon. Dr. Nasreen Fatima motivated the farmers to adopt drip irrigation technology, emphasizing its benefits for sustainable agriculture. Dr. Faizan Ahmad expressed his gratitude to Dr. Deldan Namgyal, Principal Investigator of the Precision Farming Development Centre Leh, for sponsoring the training program. He also encouraged the farmers to implement such technologies, especially in drought-affected areas, for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Honourable Councillor Manzoor Hussain, congratulated the trainees for completing the 7-day training program. He thanked Dr. Faizan Ahmad and his team for successfully conducting the training on micro-irrigation for the first time in Kargil. He emphasized that such technology is crucial, as his constituency is one of the most drought-affected areas in Kargil, and he is actively working on various drip irrigation projects in the region.
Certificates were distributed to all the trainees, and mementos and certificates were presented to the resource persons, including Er. Ahmed Ali, for his insightful session on success stories of drip irrigation in Kargil. Other resource persons, such as Dr. Rinchan Dolkar, Dr. Mansoor Ali, Dr. Tsultim Plamo, Dr. Kausar Fatima, and Stanzin Yangsdon (Assistant Professor, School of Agricultural Science and Technology, Kargil), were also recognized for their contributions to the one-day sessions on various need-based topics.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Rinchan Dolkar, the Training Coordinator.
