Feasibility assessment for proposed Snow Ski Academy conducted at Manman Ski Slope, Drass.
Kargil, April 12, 2025: The second phase of the feasibility assessment for the proposed Snow Ski Academy in Ladakh at Manman Ski Slope Drass, was successfully conducted by a high-level committee constituted by UT Administration, marking a crucial step towards developing winter sports infrastructure in the region.
The team was led by Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi, accompanied by Councilor Bhimbhat Constituency, Abdul Wahid, and Councilor Ranbirpura Constituency, Abdul Samad, DYSS Officer, Abid Hussain, AEE & JE from PWD Division Drass, experts from the Ladakh Ski and Snow Board Association, Ski Mountaineering Association Ladakh
Mr Rajesh Consultant Ronmas Delhi, members and skiers of the Snow & Ski Board Association Drass, and local experts from the region were also present.
Upon their arrival at Dak Bungalow Drass, the high level committee was warmly welcomed by the Snow & Ski Board Association Drass with traditional Khataks.
The president of the association Murtaza Agha highlighted the immense potential of the Manman Ski slope, emphasizing its unique advantage an extended skiing season stretching from November–December to mid-May.
He appealed the administration to promote the slope on a larger scale to boost winter sports tourism and training opportunities.
Following a brief reception, the committee proceeded to the Manman Ski Slope to assess the terrain. Technical experts and consultants thoroughly evaluated the gradient, terrain, and other essential aspects critical for establishing a skiing facility.
On-site discussions revolved around infrastructure development, technical requirements, and the roadmap for establishing the Snow Ski Academy. Both Councilors assured their full support and emphasized community cooperation for the initiative.
Pertinently, UT administration has approved Winter Sport Academy for Drass and Zanskar in 2022 through Youth Service and Sport Department but the same couldn’t be executed due to certain reason and now the UT administration has committed to take up the same during current financial year as both the academy found utmost important for snow related activities promotion in UT Ladakh.
At the site, Executive Councilor Er. Punchok Tashi directed the expert team to submit a detailed survey report at the earliest, and highlighted the following key requirements for successful implementation like installation of Chairlift/Draglift, provision of Snow Grooming/Beating Machine and availability of ski equipments.
Iftikhar Hussain expert of Snowboard and Manzoor Hussain Ex serviceman Ski Expert also shared their inputs.
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks from the Snow & Ski Board Association Drass to the team. The association strongly urged the administration to take swift action toward establishing the Snow Ski Academy, recognizing the Manman Slope’s immense potential as a premier winter sports hub in Ladakh.
