๐๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฌ๐, ๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐: A significant day-long awareness programme focusing on career counselling and the critical issue of drug abuse prevention was successfully organized today at Zerthang Photang Khaltse for Class 12 students from the Sham region. The initiative was a collaborative effort by LBA Sham Education Committee in collaboration with the LAHDC Leh, Information Department, Health Department, Education Department, and Indian Army.
The programme commenced with an introductory address by Chairman LBA Sham Education Committee, Choldan Tundup and followed by screening of two short films, ‘Echos of Redemption’ and ‘Trapped’, both aimed at raising awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse.
Dr Padma Angmo, a Psychiatrist and Drug De-addiction specialist from SNM Hospital Leh, provided a detailed overview of the prevailing drug abuse situation within the district. Her address emphasized the crucial need for students to cultivate rational thinking and make informed decisions. She also underscored the significance of maintaining a strong mental health for overall well-being.
Providing valuable insights into career opportunities within the armed forces, Lt. Suhas K of 66 – Medium Regiment elucidated the process of joining the Indian Army as a Commissioned Officer.
Principal of Boys Higher Secondary School Kargil, Tsewang Dorjey, informed the students about various government schemes and scholarships available to support their academic pursuits.
AE&CO Information Department Stanzin Wangmo highlighted the importance of a collective effort, involving both families and society, to effectively tackle the issue of drug abuse.
Dr Stanzin Sherap, an Educator and Counsellor, delivered an insightful session emphasizing the importance of focusing on skill development for future success.
The day-long programme also witnessed addresses from Dr Phuntsog SEC Sham, Vice President of LBA Sham, President of Goba Association Sham, and other esteemed officials and members, all contributing to the comprehensive nature of the event.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from Vice-Presidents of Sham LBA, Presidents of Sham LBA, GCM members, VEC Chairmen, teachers, and the Class 12 students from across the Sham region, demonstrating a collective commitment towards the well-being and future prospects of the students. The collaborative effort underscores the commitment of various stakeholders in addressing critical issues impacting the youth of the region.
