    CEC Kargil attends distribution of lighting units and looms under NHDP
    Kargil, April 18, 2025: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the distribution ceremony of lighting units and looms under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) at Handloom Department Kargil.
    The initiative falls under the Outside Cluster Programme, wherein 90% of the cost is subsidized by the government while the remaining 10% is borne by the weavers. On the occasion, a total of 27 looms and 17 lighting units were distributed among the beneficiaries.
    Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, District Superintendent Handloom Kargil, Arifa Iqbal Lone, Headquarter Assistant Kaneez Fatima, Assistant Director, Weavers Service Center Srinagar, Tohir Ahmad, Senior Assistant Baqir Ali, along with other officials and local weavers.
    Speaking at the event, CEC Dr. Akhoon emphasized the importance of utilizing the distributed tools for their intended purpose and encouraged the weavers to continuously enhance their skills for self-reliance.
    He appreciated the efforts of District Superintendent Handloom Kargil for her dedication towards uplifting the handloom sector and implementing beneficiary-centric schemes.
    Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imteeaz Kacho assured the artisans of continued administrative support, including access to market outlets through the Municipality.
    He urged the weavers to create high-quality products that would not only add value to their hard work but also inspire the wider community. He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting self-employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
    District Superintendent Handloom, Arifa Iqbal Lone expressed gratitude to the Weavers Service Center, Srinagar for their continued support and tool provision.
    She also informed that a 45-day weaving training programme is in the pipeline and will be implemented upon approval to further enhance local weaving skills.
    Assistant Director of the Weavers Service Center, Srinagar, Tohir Ahmad, provided an overview of various schemes offered by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India for the benefit of local weavers.
    Later, CEC screened various documentary films highlighting the local handloom sector’s importance, challenges, and success stories.
