    World Earth Day 2025 celebrated at School of Agriculture Science and Technology, Kargil.
    Kargil, April 22, 2024: The School of Agriculture Science and Technology (SAS&T), Kargil, University of Ladakh, commemorated World Earth Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and commitment today under the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainable practices.
    The celebration commenced with a warm welcome to Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi, who was received by Dr. Rinchan Dolkar, Assistant Professor, with traditional Khataks and a memento as a token of appreciation.
    The event was formally inaugurated by planting sapling of mulberry, symbolizing the commitment to a greener future. The planting was led by the EC Tashi, with the active participation of faculty members and students, showcasing a shared responsibility towards environmental conservation.
    A painting competition was organized for the B.Sc. Agriculture students, centered around this year’s Earth Day theme. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students creatively expressing their perspectives on environmental sustainability.
    The entries were evaluated by a panel of judges that include Dr. Mansoor, Dr. Bilqees and Dr. Zahid Abass Wazir. Judging was based on pictorial representation, conceptual understanding, and oral explanation provided by the participants.
    On the same occassion, a plantation drive was carried out at Az-Zahra Girls Home, in collaboration with Jamiat-ul-Ulama-Isna-Asharia Kargil. The Basic Agriculture Trainees (BAT) from the School of Agriculture Science and Technology- Kargil (UoL) volunteered in the initiative, promoting community engagement and environmental awareness.
    The celebration at SAS&T was moderated by Dr. Kausar Fatima. In the welcoming address, Dr. Rinchan Dolkar shared insights on the journey and development of the SAS&T campus, highlighting achievements and challenges, and further shared the concept of Earth Day. She also appealed to the chief guest for continued support in institutional growth.
    In his address, EC Tashi congratulated Dr. Faizan Ahmed, Dean of SAS&T, for his dedicated efforts in leading the institution. He also interacted with students and BAT trainees, sharing inspiring words on environmental stewardship and the role of youth in sustainable development.
    The celebration concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, during which the winners of the painting competition were honored by the Chief Guest. Latifa Banoo received the first prize, Archo Shahar secured the second position, and Nusrat Fatima was awarded third place.
    A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Tsultim Palmo, expressing gratitude to all participants, faculty members, Students, Trainees, Staff members, and dignitary who contributed to the success of the event.
