CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Distributes Button Mushroom Units to SHGs in Kargi.
Kargil, May 17, 2025 – The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today distributed button mushroom cultivation units to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at the Mushroom Facility in Kurbathang, Kargil. This initiative aims to empower local communities through sustainable livelihood opportunities and promote organic farming practices.
Speaking at the event, CEC Dr. Akhoon emphasized the Council’s vision of creating employment opportunities both directly and indirectly through various departmental schemes.
Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon highlighted the nutritional benefits of mushrooms and underscored the importance of supporting public health and economic growth through such initiatives.
Dr. Akhoon congratulated the Agriculture Department for launching this impactful project and pledged financial support to ensure its success. He announced a provision of Rs. 3 lakh from untied funds, if the initiative prove successful.
Furthermore, he assured that any necessary equipment or additional support required by SHGs would be provided. “The cultivation of mushrooms and similar sustainable practices are close to my heart. It is my personal vision to promote such initiatives that align with both health and employment goals,” he said.
The CEC also interacted with the members of the SHGs, listened to their concerns, and assured them of full support. He encouraged the expansion of SHG activities and promised to discuss with respective Councillors to widen the reach and impact of mushroom cultivation across the region.
He also stressed the importance of organic farming and its long-term benefits for both the environment and community health.
