Kargil, July 15, 2025 — On the third day of his constituency tour, Hon’ble Member of Parliament Haji Hanifa Jan, accompanied by Executive Councillor Zakir Hussain, Councillor Silmo Feroz Ahmad Khan, Councillor Sodh Manzoor Hussain, and nominated Councillor Gurmeth Angchuk, visited several villages in the Batalik region.
The team covered key locations including Batalik, Darchiks, Garkone, Gargardoo, Chulichan, Lalung, Silmo, Barchey, Apati, Yourbaltak, Tumail, and Chutumail. During the visit, Councillor Feroz Ahmad Khan highlighted the region’s major concerns, and residents submitted written memoranda outlining their demands and grievances.
Among the most pressing demands raised across the stretch from Garkone to Lalung were the promotion of border tourism, development of homestay facilities, sanctioning of essential road infrastructure, construction of a common indoor stadium, establishment of a hospital, and upgradation of the existing middle school.
Specific appeals from Darchiks and Gargardoo included setting up an Animal Husbandry Centre, appointment of adequate staff—particularly a headmaster for the middle school—improvements to road connectivity, and resolution of ongoing issues under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Addressing public gatherings at various stops, MP Haji Hanifa extended heartfelt gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support. He emphasized his dedication to the holistic development of the region, stating that the purpose of his visit was to thank the people and to assess ongoing development projects and emerging needs for speedy implementation—whether under central, UT, or council schemes.
The MP assured residents that he stands united with local councillors in addressing public needs. He promised timely redressal of pending road works, particularly those under the BRO, and assured that the shortage of teaching staff, including headmasters, would be addressed at the earliest. He emphasized that all demands will be prioritized and fulfilled in a phased and transparent manner.
At Soth, the public and representatives expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for raising their water shortage issue in the parliament for the first time. Responding to the serious concerns of the people of Soth—particularly regarding recurring drought-like conditions—MP Hanifa announced that a dedicated survey team would soon be deployed to assess and address the crisis. Recognizing the acute water scarcity, he emphasized the urgency of developing long-term and sustainable solutions. As a visionary step, he proposed the creation of artificial glaciers—an innovative method already proven effective in similar Himalayan terrains—to ensure year-round water availability. The MP stated that with expert consultation and support from relevant agencies, the idea will be thoroughly explored and implemented to benefit the region sustainably.
In conclusion, MP Haji Hanifa reassured the public that every possible measure will be taken to resolve the issues of all areas visited. He emphasized his commitment to work with urgency, accountability, and a long-term vision for the betterment of the people of Batalik and surrounding villages.
