    Kargil, August 07, 2025 – Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, attended the final match of the Ghadeer Premier League Cricket Tournament as the Chief Guest. The event was organized by the Cricket Association Ghadeer Pishu and held at Khree Sultan Choo Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil.
    The tournament’s concluding ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Joint Director/CCF Finance, Mr. Iftikhar Hussain, as Guest of Honour. Councillor Haji Abass participated as the Special Guest, along with DYSSO Kargil, Mr. Ashiq Hussain, and several other dignitaries.
    Addressing the gathering, Dr. Akhoon congratulated the Cricket Association Ghadeer Pishu for organizing the tournament in a well-managed and professional manner, which brought together cricketing talent from across the district. He lauded the spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition demonstrated by both finalist teams and extended congratulations to both the winners and runners-up. He also emphasized the importance of such events in youth engagement and the overall development of sports in the region.
    The CEC reiterated LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in the district. He assured the audience that once the Sports Club Ladakh becomes functional, young talents will benefit significantly and will have greater opportunities to represent the region at national and international levels. On the occasion, Dr. Akhoon announced a cash prize of ₹1 lakh each for both the winner and runner-up teams for purchasing cricket equipment through District Youth Services and Sports Department under untied funds.
    Highlighting the significance of sports, Dr. Akhoon stated that sports not only enhance physical health but also contribute to mental well-being. He noted that Ladakh, especially Kargil, is emerging strongly in various sports disciplines, including ice hockey and cricket.
    The month-long tournament saw enthusiastic participation from 32 teams across all sub-divisions of Kargil, making it one of the largest grassroots-level cricket tournaments in the region. In an exciting final, Young Eagle Baroo clinched a narrow victory over Valley Boys Suru by seven runs. Young Eagle Baroo set a competitive target of 224 runs in 20 overs, which Valley Boys Suru chased closely but ultimately fell short.
    A large number of cricket enthusiasts and spectators gathered at the stadium to witness the thrilling final and applauded the performances of both teams.
    During the prize distribution ceremony, the winning team, Young Eagle Baroo, was awarded a cash prize of ₹1.80 lakh and a trophy, while the runner-up, Valley Boys Suru, received ₹1.20 lakh and a trophy. Ahmad Ali was declared both Man of the Match and Player of the Series, receiving ₹5,000 and ₹2,000 respectively for his exceptional performances throughout the tournament. Several other players were felicitated for their individual achievements during the league.
    Councillor Haji Abass expressed heartfelt gratitude for the invitation and thanked Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon for taking time to encourage the region’s young talents. He announced ₹1.5 lakh to the Cricket Association Ghadeer Pishu for purchasing cricket equipment and an additional ₹5,000 each for both the winner and runner-up teams.
