CEC Kargil Meets Union Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya; Discusses Winter Sports Academy, Sports Council and Infrastructure Development in Kargil.
New Delhi, August 21, 2025: Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today met Hon’ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Government of India, Mansukh Mandaviya, in New Delhi.
During the meeting, the Hon’ble CEC requested the establishment of a Winter Sports Academy in Kargil, highlighting the district’s unique geographical and climatic advantages for winter sports. The Hon’ble Union Minister responded positively and assured that the academy will be set up in Kargil to harness local talent and provide professional training opportunities to youth.
The Hon’ble CEC also requested a special fund for sports infrastructure development in Kargil to facilitate the growth of multiple sports disciplines, to which the Hon’ble Minister assured positive consideration.
The Hon’ble CEC further stressed the need to support and felicitate athletes from Kargil who represent the region at the national and international levels, through both financial assistance and institutional backing. He also emphasised the importance of establishing a Sports Council in the district to streamline and promote sports activities at the grassroots level. The Hon’ble Minister responded positively to both suggestions.
The Hon’ble Minister emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities in Ladakh through sports-related recruitment, suggesting that the UT Government of Ladakh explore avenues such as physical education teachers, healthcare professionals, athletic trainers, and other allied roles. He further assured that, in consultation with the UT Government of Ladakh, concrete steps will be taken to generate employment opportunities for the youth of the region.
The meeting marked an important step towards building a sustainable sports ecosystem in Kargil, with both parties expressing commitment to collaborate in promoting youth development, talent nurturing, and sports-driven employment generation in the region.
