Leh, 11 Sept 2025: A comprehensive review meeting on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen was held under the chairmanship of Shri Kamal Kishore Soan, Additional Secretary & Mission Director (NJJM & SBMG), Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The meeting commenced with a detailed presentation by Norboo Tundup, IEC Expert, JJM-PMU, highlighting the status of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Ladakh.
The presentation focused on various ongoing initiatives and included an in-depth discussion on the Central Nodal Officer’s observations and Data Dump Analysis by the National Jal Jeevan Mission. The status of the Grievance Redressal Mechanism portal of JJM Ladakh was also shared. Discussions further covered water quality monitoring initiatives with Laboratories and FTKs, along with the status of NABL accreditation of Labs.
The second presentation was delivered by Sajjad Qadri, Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, providing an overview of SBM and elaborating on the challenges faced. The presentation emphasised key performance parameters of SBM, including progress on Open Defecation Free Plus, Solid Waste Management, and Liquid Waste Management. Additionally, the utilisation of Swachh Bharat funds for the fiscal year 2025-26 was reviewed in detail.
Addressing the participants, Shri Kamal Kishore Soan provided a detailed response, emphasising the critical importance of source sustainability and the development of groundwater recharge structures through convergence. He emphasised the onboarding of Panchayat Secretaries on the e-Gram Swaraj portal. He instructed officials to update the ATRs of CNO’s Observations on the SWSM dashboard and rectify the data dump analysis observations. He also stressed the need for establishing a strong O&M mechanism for the effective maintenance of the assets developed under SBMG in Ladakh.
Furthermore, discussions included the upcoming ‘Swachhata Hi Seva–Swachhotsav’ campaign scheduled for rollout on 17th September. Later, the AS & MD commended the efforts of both departments, noting that Ladakh is close to achieving saturation in terms of FHTCs under JJM and ODF+ model villages under SBMG.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC, Kargil; Rakesh Kumar; Director Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Sajjad Qadri; Chief Planning Officer Leh, Deputy Secretary, PHE/I&FC; Chief Engineer PHE/I&FC; Assistant Commissioner Development, Kargil; Superintendent Engineer, PHE/I&FC; Assistant Director, Planning PHE; District Panchayat Officer, Leh; Executive Engineer, PHE Divisions; BDOs of various blocks and the others officers outside the Leh joined the meeting virtually.
