Highest KVK in India KVK Nyoma celebrates 7th Kisan Mela & Exhibition 2025.

14 September 2025 Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, under the leadership of Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, successfully organized the 7th Kisan Mela & Exhibition on 14th September 2025 at Nyoma, which witnessed overwhelming participation and enthusiasm from the farming community of the Changthang valley. The Chief Guest of the programme was Shri Ishey Spalzang, Hon’ble Councilor Nyoma, LAHDC Leh, while Shri Konchok Stanzin, Hon’ble Councilor Chushul, and Shri Thinless Nurboo, Hon’ble Councilor Kungyam graced the event as Guests of Honour.
The mela was also attended by eminent dignitaries including Dr. Maheshwar Singh, Head RRS CAZRI Leh, Dr. Kunzes Angmo, Scientist SAS&T, University of Ladakh, Dr. Anwar Hussain, Scientist, Dr.Sonam Spaldon, Scientist SAS&T, UoL, the SDM Nyoma, and representatives of allied departments of Nyoma block. In his welcome address, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup highlighted the significance of the Kisan Mela, encouraged farmers to seek continuous guidance from KVK, and thanked all participants for their contribution. The event was inaugurated with great enthusiasm and witnessed more than 170 farmers from villages such as Nyoma, Nidder, Mudh, Khatpoo (Rong), Tukla, Liktse, and other parts of the valley, who showcased a wide range of agricultural produce including vegetables, fruits, legumes, roots, tubers, cole crops, and handloom products. Over 30 participants competed across categories, and in recognition of their efforts, cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions were awarded, along with consolation prizes, which were presented by the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour.
A special highlight of the event was the conferring of the KVK Farmer of the Year Award to Mr. (Master) Tsering Angchuk from Tsaga for his outstanding contribution to agriculture. In addition to farmers’ exhibits, SHGs presented traditional handlooms, and stalls from line departments offered services and information. Cultural programmes performed by the youth of Nyoma, Mudh, and Nidder added vibrancy to the mela. During the Farmers- Scientists Interaction session, farmers shared their problems and suggestions, which were addressed with expert solutions. In their addresses, the dignitaries lauded the farmers for their remarkable achievements in agriculture despite the cold-arid conditions, emphasized the importance of organic practices, FPO formation, and youth education in agriculture and allied sector and assured continuous institutional support.
Shri Thinless Nurboo appreciated the recently formed FPO at Hemya as a milestone for farmer development, while Shri Konchok Stanzin admired the organic produce displayed and praised KVK Nyoma for organizing the event. Shri Ishey Spalzang congratulated the farmers, saying that Changthang is no longer backward but progressing rapidly in agriculture, and urged farmers to take timely advisories from KVK and line departments. Nambardars and Goba members expressed gratitude towards KVK Nyoma and honoured Dr. Phuntsog Tundup with traditional Khataks.
As part of the support initiatives, polythene sheets were distributed to villagers of Nyoma, Mudh and Nidder. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Tashi Dolkar, Scientist KVK Nyoma, who acknowledged the contributions of dignitaries, scientists, councilors, farmers, and participants, marking the 7th Kisan Mela & Exhibition as a grand success and an inspiring milestone in the agriculture journey of Changthang.
