DC Kargil chairs District Level Advisory Committee Meeting on Food Safety.
Kargil, September 15, 2025: Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Rakesh Kumar (IAS), today chaired the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) on Food Safety quarterly meeting today in his office chamber under the theme “Safe Food & Healthy Diets.”
The meeting was attended by the DySP, Kargil, District Programme Officer ICDS Kargil, Assistant Director FCS&CA Kargil, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil, Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, and Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Kargil, among others.
During the meeting, the DC directed Food Safety Department to collect food samples from the hospital canteen, prepare a comprehensive video showcasing each stage of the food safety process, and circulate it publicly through media channels. They were further directed to conduct strict checks at entry points of vehicles arriving from outside states, with special focus on paneer, chicken and meat consignments.
The DC instructed the Education Department to complete FSSAI registration of all schools under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme within one week.
DC Rakesh instructed Chief Medical Officer to submit a monthly report of patients affected by food-borne illnesses to the Food Safety Department.
He instructed Municipal Committee & Food Safety Department to jointly initiate a drive to identify and provide designated spaces for street vendors, ensuring hygienic practices.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed Horticulture Department to prepare and circulate a video guide for farmers on the correct use of Potassium Metabisulphite (KMS) in apricot processing.
He asked Cooperative Department to ensure FSSAI registration of all premises under its jurisdiction.
He further instructed The Food Safety Department to actively promote food safety grievance redressal mechanisms on social media platforms, specifically through DIPR Kargil.
The meeting also reviewed enforcement activities, licensing, sampling, adjudication, and consumer grievance redressal measures, with a focus on improving hygiene in hospital canteens, MDM kitchens, and cooperative outlets.
