“Safe Food & Healthy Diet” was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Leh.

A quarterly meeting of the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) on “Safe Food & Healthy Diet” was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Romil Singh Donk, in the VC Room, DC Office, Leh.
The meeting commenced with a detailed presentation by the Food Safety Department, Leh, highlighting their roles and responsibilities in licensing, registration, sampling, testing, inspections, adjudication, and fine collection. Category-wise sampling data and pending cases were also discussed.
Taking serious note of the recent mass food poisoning incident, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over delays in food sampling and testing. He directed the department to ensure stricter enforcement and timely reporting.
During the meeting, the President of the Merchant Association, Leh, raised issues regarding inflated prices of essential commodities such as vegetables, meat, and eggs, urging the administration to regulate food rates at restaurants and market rate lists. He further emphasized the urgent need to expedite the construction of a slaughterhouse in Leh to ensure a safe and fresh supply of poultry in the market.
The Deputy Commissioner, while acknowledging these concerns, directed that DLAC meetings be conducted monthly instead of quarterly. He fixed the next meeting for 16th October 2025, by which time he instructed the concerned departments to submit a comprehensive report on sampling, testing, and resolution of the rate list issue.
Extending support to the Food Safety Department, Additional Superintendent of Police, Leh, Rigzen Sangdup, assured that the Ladakh Police would actively assist in sampling operations. The DC also announced that he would personally accompany inspection teams to ensure compliance and transparency.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Leh, Rigzin Sangdup; District Programme Officer, ICDS, Leh; General Manager, DIC, Leh; Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Leh; President Merchant Association, Leh and other concerned officials.
