Training on cultivation of saffron held in Kargil; free distributes saffron corms.
Kargil, September 22, 2025: In a significant step towards diversification of high-value crops, the CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, Ladakh, organized a program for the free distribution of saffron corms among progressive farmers of Kargil district.
The event was held at Seed Multiplication Farm Kurbathang, Kargil, where technical expert Mr. Zubair Ahmed conducted a detailed demonstration on scientific methods of saffron cultivation, post-harvest handling, and benefits of adopting the crop in local conditions.
The program was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Kargil, District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Assistant Agrostologist, Agriculture Assistant Inputs and other departmental staff.
Officials emphasized that saffron cultivation could open new avenues of income for farmers and boost agri-economy in UT Ladakh. Farmers welcomed the initiative of the department.
