MP Haneefa Jan Visits Various Villages; Assures Timely Redressal of Public Issues and Emphasizes Development Through Tourism and Horticulture.
Kargil, November 03, 2025: The Hon’ble Member of Parliament took an extensive tour of several villages, including Stiyangkung, Karchykhar, Lalung, Thasgam, Hambri, Thang, Brakoo, and Thuvina, to assess local needs, interact with residents, and review developmental challenges faced by the people.
During the visit, the MP patiently listened to the villagers’ concerns and assured them of his continued support and intervention at both Council and Central levels.
At Stiyangkung, the villagers highlighted the need for a cattle shed, a proper water pump system, and a medical centre, which they said is urgently required. They also sought the preservation and renovation of an old shrine, establishment of an animal care centre, construction of a protection bandh for agricultural lands, and provision of horticulture funds for apricot cultivation in the area. The youth further demanded a playground. The MP assured that all these issues would be taken up at the appropriate levels and stressed that, after tourism, horticulture must be promoted as a key sector for economic growth in the region.
At Karchykhar, the people demanded the renovation of Syed Mir Hashim Astana, preservation and exploration of the ancient Buddha statue, and conservation of the old mosque’s historical carvings. They also requested the upgradation of the local middle school established in 1954 to a high school, along with additional funds for the coaching of poor students during winter. The MP stated that these heritage sites are valuable cultural assets and directed the Tourism Department to take special measures for their preservation and exploration. He assured that the proposal for school upgradation would be reviewed and pursued further.
At Lalung, the villagers raised concerns over the construction of a link road from Goma Kyokchay to Lalung, the establishment of a medical aid centre, a flash flood protection wall, and unresolved issues under the Jal Jeevan Mission. They also requested financial assistance for religious institutions such as Imam Bargahs for their maintenance and improvement. The MP assured that he would raise these issues both at the Council and Central levels and instructed the concerned officials to ensure timely release of land compensation as per norms.
At Thasgam, the main demands included link roads, upgradation of the school and medical centre, and development of a playground for the youth. The villagers also mentioned the renovation of the village canal and shortage of urea fertilizer, noting that the black manure currently supplied is unsuitable for cultivation. They requested supply of white urea to improve crop yield. The MP assured the people that their agricultural concerns would be taken up with the relevant authorities to ensure an adequate and timely supply of quality fertilizer.
At Hambri, the residents requested immediate reconstruction and reopening of their school building, installation of hand pumps due to the failure of JJM in the area, improvement of road connectivity, and establishment of a library for the youth. In nearby Thang village, the problem of inadequate water supply under JJM was also raised. The MP directed officials to resolve these water and infrastructure issues at the earliest possible time.
At Brakoo, the people appealed for the upgradation of their middle school to a high school, establishment of smart classroom facilities, and repair of the water supply system. They also sought construction of a protection wall around the school and restoration of the irrigation canal. The MP directed the officers to take early action on these matters and assured that some works will be handled at the Council level, while others will be escalated to the Centre. He reiterated his personal commitment to follow up on the progress of all pending works.
At Thuvina, the villagers demanded the upgradation of their middle school to a high school and urged for the construction of a road connecting Thuvina to Lungma Glacier to boost tourism potential. They also requested support for the renovation, fencing, and labelling of the Eidgah. The MP appreciated their vision and said that tourism could play a vital role in enhancing the local economy, particularly in the Barsoo region, which holds great promise for development. He assured that all issues would be taken up at both the state and central levels and promised to hold further meetings with the Council and officers to ensure speedy implementation.
In his concluding remarks, the MP expressed satisfaction over the interaction and reaffirmed his commitment to the region’s holistic development.
