EC Phunchok Tashi Stresses Cooperative Role in Boosting Ladakh’s Rural Economy at Pashkum.
Kargil, November 04, 2025: In commemoration of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Ladakh Aquaculture Farmer Producer Organisation Cooperative Societies Ltd., Pashkum and Cooperative Department Kargil UT Ladakh, organized a significant event today focused on importance of the Cooperative Department in fostering sustainable rural economies and community empowerment.
The programme emphasized the transformative potential of cooperatives in aquaculture and agriculture, aligning with global efforts to promote cooperative models for inclusive growth.
The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Cooperatives, Er. Phunchok Tashi, as the Chief Guest, and Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Tourism & Health, Sh. Kacho Feroz, as the Guest of Honour.
Distinguished attendees also included Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kargil, Sh. Dr. Sarwar Shazad (JKAS), Assistant Registrars of Cooperatives (ARCs), supervisors and staff from the Cooperative Department, Kargil, along with members of the society and local villagers.
During the programme, Chief Guest Sh. Phunchok Tashi delivered a comprehensive briefing on the principles and significance of cooperatives, highlighting their role in enhancing livelihoods, promoting financial inclusion, and driving socio-economic development in remote regions like Ladakh. He stressed the Cooperative Department’s pivotal contributions to capacity building, and resource mobilization for farmer producer organizations.
Guest of Honour Sh. Kacho Feroz expressed his admiration for the proactive initiatives of the Ladakh Aquaculture Farmer Producer Organisation, commending their innovative approaches to aquaculture.
The dignitaries also visited fish farms where they were impressed by the ongoing project and the tangible impacts on productivity. The event served as a platform to discuss future collaborations under the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, reinforcing the Cooperative Department, UT Ladakh’s commitment to scaling up such models across the region.
