Zanskar, November 8, 2025: On the auspicious occasion of Zangla Skurim, Hon’ble Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi today laid foundation stone for construction of a Multipurpose Community Hall at Zangla approved under District capex with an estimated cost of Rs 3.17 Cr and also dedicated the newly developed Community Park near Nunnery, Zangla, a sacred monument envisioned to foster harmony, compassion, peace, and promote pilgrim tourism in the region.
The project of the park, executed by the Zanskar Development Authority (ZDA) was completed at an estimated cost of ₹3.00 crore. The event was graced by SDM Zanskar, Shri Omkar Rajendar Gundage IAS, along with officials from R&B/ZDA, local monks and nuns, village representatives, and a large gathering of residents and devotees who came together to celebrate this remarkable milestone for Zangla.
The Community Park near Nunnery has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the spiritual and cultural ethos of Zangla. Surrounded by serene landscapes and sacred sites, the park features landscaped gardens, sitting areas, meditation spaces, and pathways leading to the historic nunnery complex. It aims to serve both as a place of reflection for local residents and as a welcoming site for pilgrims and visitors seeking tranquillity and spiritual rejuvenation from the Buddha statue.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble EC Er. Punchok Tashi expressed his deep satisfaction over the successful completion of the project and highlighted its importance in preserving Zangla’s sacred heritage. He remarked that the development of this park is not merely an infrastructural project but a spiritual initiative that represents the values of peace, coexistence, and compassion deeply rooted in Ladakh’s culture. He further stated that the park would enhance the aesthetic beauty of the area where a huge Buddha statue is constructed with Community contributions.
SDM Zanskar, Shri Omkar Rajendar Gundage, in his remarks, appreciated the efforts of the EC Punchok Tashi for taking up such meaningful developmental works that balance infrastructure with environmental and cultural preservation. He emphasized that projects like this strengthen the bond between development and spirituality, setting a model for future initiatives in the region.
During the event, local village leaders extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble EC Punchok Tashi and LAHDC Kargil for their continuous efforts in uplifting the region through thoughtful and sustainable projects. They also shared their joy and pride that such a sacred initiative has been realized in Zangla, which will further inspire peace and brotherhood among all.
The inauguration concluded with prayers and ceremonial offerings for peace, prosperity, and the continued spiritual growth of the region. The Community Park near Nunnery, Zangla stands today as a symbol of faith, unity, and progress, reflecting the visionary leadership and commitment of Er. Punchok Tashi toward promoting holistic development and cultural preservation across Zanskar.
Hon’ble EC also informed the gathering that the tendering of Zangla mini dam for Irrigation purpose is in final stage and also told that Link Road for internal Zangla village stand approved under District Plan 2025.
