EC Animal & Sheep Husbandry Inaugurates “Madina Dairy Farm” at Kurbathang, Kargil.
Kargil, November 25, 2025: The Animal Husbandry Department, Kargil, today marked a significant step toward strengthening the district’s dairy sector with the inauguration of a 5-Cow Dairy Unit titled “Madina Dairy Farm” at Kurbathang. The facility was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, LAHDC Kargil, Aga Syed Mujtaba.
The project has been developed under the Special Development Package (SDP) with a total approved cost of ₹12.24 lakh, of which 50% (₹6.12 lakh) has been provided as departmental subsidy. This financial assistance is part of the ongoing efforts of the Department and LAHDC Kargil to encourage dairy entrepreneurship and ensure steady income avenues for local livestock farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble EC appreciated the beneficiary for establishing a modern small-scale dairy unit and encouraged more youth to come forward to avail departmental schemes. He emphasized that such initiatives will help reduce reliance on imported milk and milk products, thereby enhancing local milk self-sufficiency.
The newly established “Madina Dairy Farm” is expected to contribute significantly to the local milk supply chain through improved breed cows, scientific management, and better hygiene practices. This unit will act as a model for other farmers aspiring to take up dairy farming in a structured and sustainable manner.
Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil, stated that the Department is committed to promoting progressive livestock farming in the district. He highlighted that financial assistance under SDP is enabling farmers to establish economically viable dairy units, leading to enhanced rural livelihoods and improved nutritional security in the region.
The Animal Husbandry Department will continue to support beneficiaries with technical know-how, veterinary backup, feed and fodder advisories, and capacity building to ensure long-term success of such dairy ventures.
