Government Model Degree College Zanskar Observes World AIDS Day.
Zanskar, December 3, 2025: Government Model Degree College (GMDC), Zanskar, observed World AIDS Day in collaboration with PM SHRI Government Middle School Salapi, Zanskar. The event was held under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, GMDC Zanskar.
The programme was graced by Dr. Angmo, Guest Speaker from CHC Padum; Mr. Stanzin Kunsal, Headmaster, PM SHRI Government Middle School Salapi, VEC members, faculty; and students.
In his address, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal GMDC Zanskar, highlighted the significance of observing World AIDS Day and expressed gratitude to all guests and students for their participation. He emphasized the importance of health and hygiene in modern society and urged women, in particular, to stay informed about such crucial issues. Dr. Abassi briefed the gathering on HIV/AIDS and its impact on people’s lives. He also introduced the nutritional value of local endemic plants, especially sea buckthorn. Later on, as a gesture of respect, he presented traditional khataks to Dr. Angmo and other dignitaries.
Headmaster Mr. Stanzin Kunsal extended his appreciation to the Principal and faculty of GMDC Zanskar for inviting their students and for continuously supporting their school in various academic initiatives. He presented a traditional khataks to the Principal, GMDC Zanskar for his unwavering support.
The event featured an awareness talk and a poster-making competition, both aimed at sensitizing students about HIV/AIDS.
Guest Speaker, Dr. Angmo from CHC Padum delivered an impactful and informative talk on AIDS. She discussed its causes, modes of transmission, and preventive measures, stressing the importance of compassion toward individuals affected by the disease. She also noted that discussing such topics remains a taboo in some communities, and urged students and citizens to openly engage in awareness and education to safeguard public health.
Thereafter, all participants of the poster-making competition were awarded certificates of appreciation. Dr. Angmo was also felicitated with a souvenir as a token of gratitude for her valuable lecture.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Villayat Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of History, GMDC Zanskar. He expressed sincere appreciation to Dr angmo, guests, faculty members and students for making the program a success.
