CEC Kargil attends Losar-e-RGaston Poetic Symposium organised by PCLS.
Kargil, December 15, 2025: The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Mr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, attended the Losar-e-RGaston Poetic Symposium of Purgi poets and the book release ceremony of “Chronicles of the Last Village” authored by Ali Asgar Balti. The programme was organised by the Purgi Culture and Literary Society, Kargil, Ladakh.
The event was also attended by Padma Shri awardee Akhoon Asgar Basharat, Special Officer (Culture) and Assistant Director Tourism, Kargil, Mr. Mohammad Ali Tak, besides writers, poets, scholars, and literary figures representing Shina, Balti, Purgi, and Brokskat languages.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC congratulated Ali Asgar Balti on the publication of his second book and appreciated the Purgi Culture and Literary Society, Kargil, for successfully organising the literary symposium. While praising the young writer, Dr. Akhoon lauded his efforts in making a mark in literary circles at such a young age and described him as an inspiration for young students to pursue careers in literature.
The CEC further appreciated the role of the Purgi Culture and Literary Society for organising such timely literary events, which provide a platform for writers, scholars, and poets to showcase their talents. He termed writers and poets as the torch-bearers of society, stating that their writings act as a mirror of social realities, encouraging reflection and guiding society towards progress and betterment.
Recalling the contribution of literary organisations in Kargil, the CEC highlighted the significant role played by the literary community in securing official language status for Purgi in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Addressing certain demands, the CEC informed that the Culture Academy, Kargil, will be provided with additional staff through contractual appointments or outsourcing, and added that recruitment rules for permanent staff are currently under process. He also assured that funds will be earmarked under the upcoming CAPEX budget to support writers, poets, and scholars in publishing their works.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Officer (Culture) / AD Tourism, Kargil, Mr. Mohammad Ali Tak, congratulated the young writer for his exemplary literary contribution and wished him continued success in his future works.
The event concluded with poetry recitations by writers and poets, making the literary gathering vibrant and enriching.
